Brief background:
My HP laptop died. No power no led lights. Diagnosed as motherboard problem. Decided cost not worth it and will buy new laptop when Windows 7 comes out.
Hard drives are good. In fact, I am able to use them in my wife's HP laptop. Similar model to mine. Both computers have two physical drives normally labeled C: and D:
What I want to do -
I want my C: drive in the #1 drive position as the boot drive. That works fine. Now, I want my wife's C: drive in the #2 slot which seems to recognize it as the D: drive.
I want my wife to be able to uses this laptop (that we will share) to access her Documents and Mail. I'm not sure if she has any programs that I don't have but to be able to run them too.
Problem -
The system won't let me open her documents. When i click on the Documents and Settings folder, I get a dialog box that says: "D:\Documents and Settings is not accessible. Access is denied:"
Also, trying simple HP games, they won't run.
I imagine I need to tell Windows something but what?
