New laptop, came with user name already set. When I try to change it using user accounts in Control Panel it shows a blank picture for the account and when I enter a new name and click the change name link, it does not change the name.
I still have been unable to change the default username. The thing is I am the only user, and I don't want to create another user and eliminate the original, as I fear I may miss something when copying the default profile to the new one. Any suggestions?
Open control panel then 'add or remove user accounts' then down the bottom is a link to 'go to the main user accounts page'. Then go in change your account name, then change the name. Simple. I was stuck on this problem for some time as well.
hi there this is my problem 3 days for now, can you help me with this problem, im using a acer laptop, when a shut down my computer and then i turn on again my admin user account was gone and the guest account only is in their, but when i try to change my account name, then the admin appears and tells "please enter password and click ok", but i cant click the OK button only the CANCEL.(this is in the guest account cuz my admin was gone.)
but my files are still there but when i click my folder there's going to pop up and said, "please click continue to see the folder" then i click the continue admin pop's up and still i cant click OK.
how can i solve this. plss help..!!!

First, read our tutorial on how to manage user accounts in Windows Vista.
If it doesn't work, try to create another user and use that one.

Instead of going through the Windows Registry, you can always use a free tool called Change Owner.
