changing o s language from French to English

I am hoplessly stuck!!
i have recently bought a laptop in france with vista family basic alreqdy installed. i naturally assumed that as english is an international language i would be able to change it: i have muddled my way through the french version feeling really pleased that i found what appeared to be language change but nothing happened: only the keyboard changed: i am now getting increasingly frustrated, my french is not that good and i cannot find my way round well enough.
Also i cannot seem to get my internet to connect i have an acer aspire 3100 any help on that would be appreciated.
if i have to get an upgrade downloaded how can i do that if i cant get conntected?

Multilingual Pack
I had the same problem with french products. No matter what they are - games, software - they all are in french. I don't know how much this will help, but with my HP laptop I received this CD: "hp notebook Language Pack Recovery CD - contains multilingual user interface for system restore / WinXP Pro (includes over 10 languages)". With this CD I can change the interface language. Maybe you have something similar, or you can download something similar from the producer's website.
Of course, there's always the possibility to install an english version of Vista...

Windows Vista has an option to change language, as you have discovered, but in Windows Vista Basic it will not change the language in the interface, you need Windows Vista Ultimate for it to work. The ability to change language is for some idiotic reason reserved for Ultimate buyers. So your only options are to either stick with your French Windows, or buy an English Windows. There might be some option to upgrade your OEM Windows to a "real" Windows and the also chnage the language....
I want the English version of Vista in my other computer
I live in outside Montreal and got an HP pavilion with Vista Home Premium in French ,I see that only the Vista
Ulltimate version can change language to Einglish ,I have troubles with French keyboard ,I will build my own own computer from parts that I will get from Toronto and bring it back to Staples ( Bureau en Gros)

I just got this Acer Aspire 7520 laptop from canada which hapens 2 b in french, i have tried 2 change 2 english but i dono wat 2 do or wer 2 go any 1 plz kno wat i culd do or any softwer i cld get thanx alot

I just purchased the Acer Aspire X1200, and have the same problem (Vista is in French and I want English).
I contacted Acer support and they tell me the recovery system (eRecovery) will only recover the OS still in French. They suggest I purchase some recovery disks from www_acerpanam_com.
I am still covered by Staples 14 day satisfaction garantee so may just return it instead.

i want to change the complete OS language from french to englsh is it possible
If not, do i have to purchase a new englsih cd for the same or can i get a help from toshiba for the french to english

french computer with vista connecting to orange livebox in franc
I live in france and My english computer of 3 years installed with windows xp working fine with a wireless card alongside a french orange livebox gave up the ghost last week, i went out and purchased an acer computer installed with vista family premium in french,which i am getting used to now also downloaded my usual avast and other items in english so i can understand them, also i couldnt connect to the internet with cable or wireless the messages were local connection i spent hours and hours trying to suss out what the problem could be and in the end i phoned a french engineer she came she spent three hours trying to find a solution then told me my nvidia card drivers were out of date even though i just purchased this brand new computer..she took the computer away returned an hour later with new drivers installed still would not connect, she also brought a d-link wireless adapter with her installed it and within seconds it found my livebox charged me 45 euros for the card and 3 hours spent on pc which i thought was brilliant and since 3 days ago has been working spot on apparently the card is good for vision but not for using with vista for connecting to the internet with an orange french livebox ??dont know if this message helps but i thought i would post just in case
still getting used to vista cant configure my email accounts with windows mail as it is all in french and i cant install outlook express so im using mozilla thunderbird scimilar interface to outlook express and in english and working fine..
i think i still prefer xp but i am determined to use vista for a bit longer rather than do a complete reinstall
