windows mail
I am not getting notification of replies as I used to do in Outlook Express. I also appear NOT to be receiving a lot of emails (some of them would probably be SPAM) however I feel that I am losing quite a lot of emails.
Help.
Can I use outlook express with VISTA?
No...
You cannot use Outlook Express in Windows Vista. If you don't like Windows Mail you can try other free e-mail clients such as Thundebird.
Imported Sent File - "To????"
Tutorial helped a lot and I got everything across. BUT Sent File shows sender (me) not who message sent to as in OE. Any solutions?
importing oulook express 6 messages to windows mail
copy the original mail store .dbx files to the root of the drive (c:\) and then do the import from there . . . you will notice that if you do it from another directory, it automatically lists the last subdirectory name twice and it can't be gotten around. Do it from c:\ and no problem.
Duplicate Node Workaround
I used the method explained by Ciprian, another visitor. You create the second node in advance using Windows Explorer and move or copy all your .dbx mail files into the second node. When, you point the vista browser to the first node it adds the second one for you and you are automatically in the correct node for import.
Once imported, I renamed this imported folder in Windows Mail and repeated the process to import another batch of mail from another Outlook Express 6 identity. This way my new mail and each identity of my old mail is kept separate but still available.
Thanks for the root directory tip!
I've been struggling for over an hour to get these OE6 messages imported into Windows Mail, and it turns out that the root directory solution was all I needed. Really appreciate the tip. Cheers!
Importing OE mails to WindowsMail
I solved problem with importing mails from OE 6.0 to Windows Mail on Vista.
Simply You have to do everything with instructions in this document, but when You are searching for directory of messages from OE then You should MARK folder Outlook Express ONLY, without entering him. Simply mark this folder and then click on Choose.
No items match your search
Thank you so much!
Emphasis of solution:
** DON'T double click 'outlook express', simply 'select' the folder when browsing ***
key words: No items match your search.
key words: Import Messages: No messages can be found in this folder or another application is running that has the required files open. Please select another folder or try closing applications that may have files open.
problem transferring messages from Outlook Express to Mail
I followed the manual procedures st out elsewhere on this site, using an external hardrive. The contacts worked fine, but Windows mail indicated there are no files in the stored folder( even though there are). How do you ensure the files in the stored folder are not read only? It is not possible for me to open them on the extrnal drive . All ideas welcome, thanks.
