Importing into Vista from a copied (not exported) .dbx

hi,
I copied the .dbx files from my old xp hard drive ( i couldnt run outlook express or windows so copied them off while attached as a slave drive on vista) They imported fine into Vista but some of them are gobbledygook as if they are corrupt or encrypted. Is there anything i can do to restore there original content?

Adding a new contact

The instructions say to click on the "New Contact" in the Windows Contacts Toolbar. There is no such button on my Contacts Toolbar. Any ideas?

Now two computers in home

I just added a windows Vista laptop to our XP PC and need to know how to make the new Vista share e-mail and addresses. How do I install all my contacts onto the new Vista? That seems to be a problem.

I had the same issue and

I had the same issue and noticed that vista was doubling the Folder name. For example my files were in C:\Outlook Express, but when I selected that folder in the import process it lookied in C\Outlook Express\Outlook Express. I finally used the nav bar at the top to get the right folder and then had no issues.

Best Migration Tool Ever

Migrating from Outlook Express (XP's default email program) to Windows Mail (Vista's default email program):

What a joke!

Is the the best DIY tool Microsoft could offer users of Outlook Express to migrate to Windows Mail?

They should try migrating Firefox from XP to Vista, I used MozBackup, twas easy a flicking a switch.

Microsoft - "Why make easy, when we can make it so much harder for y'all"

transfering email messages from outlool express to vista

Had the same problem. Vista couldnt find any *.dbx files (Outlook espress 6) on the USB memory that I used for transfer. Solved the problem by copying the folder with *.dbx files on to the desktop. Import function then found all of my folders and mesages...:-)

I tried that, but still

I tried that, but still windows mail couldn't see them, even though I could see them.

How can I read DBX files in Vista

Hi all.

My PC is set up so that the "C drive" can be removed from a cradle when the PC is turned off.

With different swappable cradles I run different OS, eg. Win2K and 2 lots of XP Pro (don't ask why :-).

All three C drives have Outlook Express 6 installed with a short cut to the files/folders storage (.dbx) located on a slave drive.

This setup works very well without fault with whatever drive/OS I have inserted and my emails are current and readily accessible EXCEPT WITH VISTA ULTIMATE!

Vista does not read .dbx files.

I tried to path the email folders from Windows Mail to the slave folder. All goes well right up until the last pop-up window when an error message comes up with words to the effect "Vista cannot make the necessary registry changes".

There you have it. How can I get Vista to read .dbx files so that I can carry on with my short cut to slave setup?

Regards Janset.

Importing messages from OE to Windows Mail on a new PC

I can get to the Import stage but can not select the .pst file. I can see it OK in My Documents so it is not hidden, but I can't see it from the Import Wizard. Any ideas ???
Thanks
