I imported email messages from Outlook Express Windows XP into Windows mail on new computer (Vista) using a CD transfer. The Title now appears as "Outlook Express provided by Comcast". All works well except for 2 very annoying problems - I cannot print messages - (screen freezes) and all Word attachments appear with a blank icon and will not open. Can anyone help me? Thank you.

Sync Outlook Express & Windows Mail?
I have a desktop and a laptop that I use when I travel. The desktop nows runs Vista and Windows Mail. The laptop still uses XP and Outlook Express. It was easy to copy inboxes etc. from laptop to desktop and back again when both used XP and Outlook Express but how do I keep both sync'ed when they use different systems?
It doesn't look like its possible??
Not possible
You cannot sync Windows Mail with Outlook Express. You should use only one mail client.
I recommend Microsoft Office Outlook and Thunderbird. Using these two is very easy to keep your mail in sync on both computers.
It is possible
[Also posted in another thread] I don't know about sync, but I worked out an easy solution to transferring Vista Windows Mail to Outlook Express:
1. On the Vista computer, create a New Folder on the Desktop.
2. Open Windows Mail and position the window and New Folder so that you can see both.
3. Select the e-mail messages you want to go to Outlook Express, and drag them to the New Folder.
4. Put the new Folder onto removable media.
5. Attach the removable media to the XP computer.
6. Open Outlook Express and position the window and New Folder so that you can see both.
7. Open the New Folder and Select All.
8. Drag the selected messages into the list of messages for the Inbox or desired folder in Outlook Express (just make sure that the target folder is open.
9. Delete the New Folder from both computers and the removable media.
Windows Mail
I hope I'm at the right site...this stuff is all Greek to me.
I'm looking for a fix for Windows Mail which seems to have two versions running...at least that's the message I get. Whenever I try to send an e-mail by opening my contacts file I get a message that tells me Windows Mail is already running and the input screen will not open. I can get around this by just opening the 'New Mail' link and typing in the address. The problem now, however, is that I am getting a message telling me that an e-mail I sent a week ago is not being accepted at the other end and every day Mail is trying to resend it. I would delete the message but it is not in my Outbox and I can't find it anywhere. Where do I look to get a fix for both problems. Any help will be much appreciated.
Windows Mail
The message might not be sent because you did not configure your account properly.
Please double check if the mail server, username, password, etc are entered correctly in your account configuration menu.
You can find a guide on how to configure Windows Mail here.
well i'm using genie backup
well i'm using genie backup to move mails from xp to vista. But it isn't very easy in vista.
Thanks for your solution kaezio !
Stop using Windows' email altogether?
Is there a way I can configure Vista to ONLY use GMail in a popup IExplore window--instead of having to set up Windows Mail/Outlook to use GMail as a pop/smtp server?? Have tried editing the registry--but still not getting my popup, and the 'puter is still defaulting to windowsmail. I don't want my computer to spend cycles on a program that is multiply redundant to the preferred program that I *want* to use.
Thank you.
