Major Lag for No Reason in Vista

Whenever I start my computer (Vista Ultimate Installed), the CPU-meter nearly always displays the CPU usage at 100% for both my cores. This significantly slows down gaming and my normal use of applications. Even when I turn off sidebar, all my running programs and put on a blank background, this problem still persists. Sometimes, after a while, the CPU usage will drop (but I almost NEVER see idle CPU usage at 1-2% anymore). With the CPU constantly running at full power, I have many problems with my normal applications as well as games. For instance, I ran Medal of Honor Airborne demo the other day, and the lag was so horrible that the game was no longer playable. This kind of lag really shouldn't happen with the hardware I have.

Process Explorer

If you want to learn what process is eating your CPU, use Process Explorer and see what is happening on your machine.

Explorer often taking up 40% of CPU

Usually, when this kind of slowdown occurs, Task Manager tells me explorer.exe is eating up 40-50% of my CPU. This happens quite often and is what I believe to be the reason of the massive lags...

Weird

This might happen for various reasons. Did you check if you have any viruses, rootkits or spyware on your computer?
