I bought a new computer in May, and it had Vista. Until about 2 months ago, all of sudden my email won't send... I receive email with no problem, but cannot get it to send out, can anyone help me???
You need to make the correct settings for the outgoing SMTP server. Please check the settings you have made and type the ones recommended by your e-mail service provider.
I am very sure that the problem is caused by the fact that you did not make the appropriate settings.
You need to set the authentication function as follow;
To use authentication when sending e‑mail
Click to open Windows Mail.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Accounts.
Under Mail, click your e‑mail account, and then click Properties.
Click the Servers tab, and then, under Outgoing Mail Server, select the My server requires authentication check box.
If the account information that you use to send e‑mail is not the same information that you use to receive messages, click Settings, click Log on using, and then enter the user name and password that you use to send e‑mail.
* for reference, see in Windows Help and Support; Troubleshoot problems with Windows Mail; I can receive, but not send, e‑mail messages.
Vista is so unstable I wish my husband had never bought me my new laptop..........One minute I can send/receive mail then I can't. It's really unstable and now I can't send mail. I have checked all my setting and they are correct. What a pain.
I can receive but cannot send email using Windows Mail. It was working fine until a few days ago. Since then I have looked everywhere for a solution and tried everything suggested, including the above "fix" from Microsoft, which says it doesn't apply to my system. I have completely removed my Norton Internet Security and it still happens. I've removed the account and added again, didn't work. My provider had me reset the winsock and that didn't work. PLEASE, can you help me. I would greatly appreciate it!
I have the same problem as Angele and have done everything she has done and have gotten the same message. It has been over a month now. I have done 9 hours of chats and gone to dell and paid to not get it fixed.
I too spent alot of time with Dell to see what my problem was and none of them had a clue. It took several calls to Charter to get someone that knew what was going on there. Windows mail will not send mail for me unless I am in an area where I am picking up off someones router that has charter, which has my email server. No problem getting mail. Charter told me they have a block on outgoing mail unless using Charter. That is for security reasons. I especially hate that when I try to send a web page. That part is the pits but I really enjoy being able to read the mail while not on line.
Hi Angele!
My name is Ken Johnson and I'm having the same issue with my Windows Mail on a new HP desktop using Vista Home edition. When I got the computer for the first couple of months both my wife and I were able to send and receive emails. Then suddenly a few weeks ago, I'm no longer able to send emails - but I can receive them and my wife can both send & receive!
I've tried everything and it's getting pretty frustrating!
I saw your post and was wondering if you ever figured out what was wrong and how you got it fixed?
I'm about ready to uninstall my Norton Internet Security suite after trying a dozen other things... and then download some other anti-virus and firewall apps.
GOSH this is frustrating!
Thanks for any help you can offer.
Best regards,
Ken Johnson bigeasy@comcast.net
I have several gmail accounts setup in windows mail, with exactly same settings on all, but 2 accounts totally refuse to send as it cancels sending when i cancel the pop up for dial up connection, as im using wireless. is there any good alternate email clients for vista were i can import my settings from outlook express ?

Problem sending Windows Mail messages.
Microsoft have issued a fix for this problem.
Go to :-
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=09F002D9-A140-4...
and download and install the file. Restart computer and all should be well.
Note that Microsoft will authenticate your Vista installation before enabling the download.
It worked for me. Good luck !
