I installed Spybot Search and Destroy. After viewing it I decided it was not what I wanted, so I uninstalled it. Problem is; it is still showing in the Windows Security Center as active (on). How do I get rid of it completely. I'm just learning. Thank You.

Hello,
Can you please tell me how you uninstalled SpyBot?
RE: Antispyware Program
Hello Ciprian,
I used uninstall in Programs and Features through Control Panel. Then I deleted the Installation folder in C:\ Program Files. Then I deleted the back up file in C:\ Program Data which was a hidden file. This file didn't have anything in it because I didn't change anything.
Someone said it might have something to do with IE and Tracking Cookies. I even tried start and Search but nothing comes up for SpyBot, unless a MIGAPP.XML File means any thing to you. It opens with IE. Tons of do not touch me stuff in there.
Strange
That sure is strange. I guess SpyBot did not remove some registry keys when you uninstalled it. This is why the Security Center sees it as being installed.
Try to install another anti-spyware solution or try some registry cleaning application.
RE: Aniti-Spyware
Hello Ciprian,
I have McAfee VirusScan Plus installed. (Previous to installing SpyBot). I opened a link to SpyBot S&D Uninstall which includes a file to clean out remains in the registry. The SpyBot Logo in the Vista Security Center is gone, but not SpyBot-Search&Destroy......Status On. I even tried a second reinstall, then uninstall, but no luck. Same thing. You are right ,something is still reporting SpyBot turned on, but how do I find it? Back to you.

Spybot, the 'bunny-boiler' of AntiSpyware
Not wishing to cause panic... I discovered that there are a lot of 'bogus' spybot download sites, which are anything but anti-spyware, I found out the hard way by just googling 'spybot' and assumed the first one was the same one as mentioned in various editorials, only went slightly hysterical when I realised what I had done. Had the same probs as you guy's vis a vis removal, ended up wiping drive & whole network, as I had not only invited trojans in, but made sure they were comfortable and made them a nice cup of tea. Genuine spybot still lurks in my system, tried various removal software packages, and just like Herpes' keeps coming back, no response to e-mails sent to company
Uninstalled Antispyware Program that is still operating
try downloading system mechanic 30 day trial program in that is a program which will remove all traces of spybot and any other program that you would like to remove really excellent software
SpyBot Gone
Hi Guys,
After six emails with SpyBot, they informed me there is a small bug in the uninstall program for Vista. They emailed me a tutorial link to manually remove it. It worked! Free at last.
Thanks to All,
