Updating Definitions
Howdy --
I've begun getting this message every time I start my computer ...
"Could not locate a valid definitions file. Please go to the Program Options page and click Update Definitions to download a definitions file."
The window on which this message appears simply says "Error" at the top.
Where in blazes is this so-called "Program Options" page, and why doesn't Vista automatically go fetch whatever it needs in the first place?

Hmmmmm ... I was rather surprised that no one here could offer an answer to this one!
Anyway, I finally hauled my machine to Best Buy, where the Geek Squad guys gave me the lowdown. Turns out a problem had developed with my anti-spyware application. They had me fixed up in very short fashion, without charging a dime {probably because I bought my computer there less than two months earlier}.
All's well that ends well. Subject closed. See ya next time.

I'm glad that you also had this problem, because I've been baffled for several days. Thank you for updating the thread with the answer to your problem, becuase that will keep me from hours of frustration trying to find the answer online. So, thank you.

Update Definitions
I keep getting the same error message stating could not locate valid definitions file. The error message says: "Go to Program Options page and click "Update Definitions" to download definitions file.

I figured (or guess) it's in the spyware but my option tab takes me nowhere.....

I like all the help everyone is giving but...
First of all, does this error message really mean anything? I still can use the lap top even though I have this message appear on occasion.
I need to know step by step as to where I need to find (programs and than where do I find options and the next step and the next).
I am really afraid of messing something up on the computer settings by just hoping i am doing the correct changes needed. If this is spyware related could one just uninstall and reinstall the spyware again?

updating definition files
Hello,
I have this message come up on the screen from time to time too, not always. Does this matter at all or should I fix this?
I need a step by step walk thru for this fix. I just don't want to go and press a bunch of buttons or keys and not understand where I really need to find these or what i'm doing this for. The computers have menus that I am not aware of deep down or imbedded and it is not
places where I wonder in to much. Please, can I just reinstall the spyware stuff to solve this error message?

I have the SAME PROBLEM!!! What the HECK is a Valid Definitions File, and why can't I locate the Progam Options page???? Please tell me what to do. Is it a problem caused from my Spyware, and if so, what do I do to fix it? Thanks
