I was using Picasa to rename a picture file name when suddenly Picasa and Firefox closed and wasn't able to restart. So I shut down the computer completely, using the Start button procedure.
I restarted the computer. Instead of getting to the sign in screen, the screen was black with words that said it wanted to run check disk. When check disk was done, the startup music could be heard but the screen was black. I pushed the start button in and held it, to shut off the computer.
I restarted the computer and check disk ran again. After it was done, I saw the password screen flash by then the screen was black. I typed in my password and the computer started normally.
Next day, I shut off the computer the normal way, Start > arrow over to shut down. When I restarted, check disk wanted to run again, but I pressed a key on the keyboard to cancel it. The puter started up normally.
I'm wondering why the check disk always wants to run and if I can tell it not to every time the computer starts. Can you write a tutorial about the Check Disk?
In XP, I could find Check Disk under Start > My Computer > right click C drive > Properties > Tools tab > Error Checking. I can't find this in Vista.
Thanks
Tutorial
When can create such a tutorial but it will take some time. In your case, you might have a hardware or driver problem.
Use the Reliability and Performance Monitor to check the stability of your system. You might find the cause of your issues there.
Your tutorials are super!
Your tutorials are super! I'm looking forward to reading more.
Thanks for the link about the Reliability and Performance Monitor. I checked it and there's one "dirty bit" error. I searched the net and fixing that is probably beyond my computer knowledge so I'll try to find someone who can come and see what can be done to stop the constant check disks at startup.
On XP, I used to run the check disk every month. Can't find it in Vista, though.
Thanks
Thank you for the appreciation. We started working on the tutorial and we will publish it by the end of next week.
If we manage to review it soon enough, we might publish it by Wednesday.
