I've recently noticed two new folders "magically" appear "out of nowhere" within my main personal folder ... you know, the one which contains all those other folders, such as -- music, pictures, downloads, favorites, links, etc -- and I'm very curious about their origins!
First, one file appeared that says "ntusr DAT file" ... followed a couple days later by something else labelled as "ntusr.dat.rmbak RAMBK file" ... which is a totally mysterious occurrence, at least in my own small range of experience. Furthermore, I can't even open these things for a look {or delete them, for that matter} ... as I get some sort of message saying something like "This file cannot be deleted, because it is being used by an active application" ... or whatever.
Has my PC been commandeered by crazed Russian hackers, or what?? I'm may end up losing sleep over this one!
tools
You should search for some tool that can tell you what application uses any given file and you will find out more.
Unfortunately no tool name comes to mind right now.
Sorry...
Say What?
Sheesh, I wouldn't even know where to start the search for such a tool!
Anyway, one of the Geek Squad guys at Best Buy identified these files as being naturally produced by Windows. He then proceeded to talk for eight minutes, explaining their various particulars ... none of which did I particularly understand. What I did comprehend, though, is the part where he assured me that these were nothing to warrant any worry.
Still, I thank you for that suggestion.
