Hi, I have vista ultimate 64-bit On a MacPro and I'm experiecing problems with connecting to my wireless router. my computer detects my belkin router and attemps to connect to it but fails. it then runs a scan to see why and it says "unknown reason". I would realy appreteate some help; exspecialy since microsoft will charge me 80$ to get some help over the phone.
Router model...
Can you give us the complete router model name?
Model name
when I click on the connect to the internet button it detects the "Belkin_Pre-N_667924" thats what it says for the signal that it is picking up. Here are some more stats.
on the bottom of the router is says:
"Mod# F5D8230-4"
"Version 1002"
"WLAN adress" Mac: 001150-2945E9
On the top of the router is says:
"Belkin"
"Airgo True Mimo"
and once again here is what I think you where mostly asking for
"Belkin_Pre-N_667924"
Thank you for your help
Belkin & Windows Vista
According to this page, your router should have native support for Windows Vista.
So... it should work.
Try to update the firmware. Go here:
http://www.belkin.com/support/article/?lid=en&pid=F5D8230-4&aid=5632&scid=0
In the "Version 1000 Frimware" section, download the 2nd file (with the version 1.01.03) and follow the instructions from the router's manual on how to update the firmware.
If it doesn't work... call Belkin tech support - not Microsoft.
Only Belkin can help you!
You said Mac Pro...
You said the computer is a Mac Pro. Does it also run Mac OS/X? If so what happens with wireless in there?
Are you running Windows Vista natively (on the hardware bare?) or using some other Virtualization Software to allow it to run?
Do you have any other computers to cross-check the wired and wireless network connections with? This would be nice, that way you could determine if it's the Wireless Router, the Computer, or something else.
If a computer can (try to?)associate with the wireless signal but cannot connect - it might be that you have the wrong wireless key, if some method of wireless security/encryption is enabled.
Also there could be something wrong with a router there that should be doing DHCP to assign IP Settings Automatically.
