Vista SP1

I've just bought a OEM copy of vista sp1 and am wondering if I should even open the cd. I don't know if anyone has used sp1 yet and how much better it is than vista original. If anyone has any idea please let me know.

What operating system is on your computer right now? XP? If you have XP right now you may want to stick with it for a while longer while Microsoft works on some bugs in Vista SP1. I have a new computer with Vista and tried to upgrade to SP1 about two weeks ago. I had all kinds of problems. Before you attempt to install Vista SP1, make sure you back up all important files on a disk or remote drive so you can recover them later if the installation goes bad. I had problems installing SP1 and compatibility problems after the installation. I finally had to get Microsoft Techs to help me. Be aware there are programs that are compatible with XP and earlier Operating systems that are not compatible with Vista and won't work properly after you install Vista SP1. Talk to a Microsoft Tech about non-compatible programs to make sure you don't have any before you try to install Vista SP1. Vista is nice looking, but XP was a lot less trouble and a lot more stable.

Hello Mike, thanks for your comments on vista. I just saw the ad for the OEM pack for about £60 so thought it was worth buying. I wish i'd looked this site up first.

I downloaded SP1 everything seemed fine to startb with then i lost my internet connection i tried re-installing the BB software that didnt work in the end had to do a system restore I contacted the suppliers of the pc as microsoft would not support any problems as vista was preinstalled i am now without the sp1 until dell release an update

I installed SP1 throug Windows Update about a week ago and didn't have any problem. I must say that I haven't notice any improvement in the system since the installation, I must belive what Microsoft says about reliability and security.

I have a Dell computer running Vista. I called Dell support because of a minor problem I was having with my computer. I inquired about Vista SP1 and was told by different support techs to wait a couple of months as there were a lot of problems with it. So I wait until July or there abouts to take that route.
