Password Protecting Files

Is there any quick and convenient way to password protect some sensitive files in XP? I know that XP offers password protection with ZIP folders, but it's not exactly convenient. I'm looking for something (maybe free software?) that'll let me access password-protected files as quickly as any regular file.
