Vista basic screen view

I am not sure how, if kids changed settitng or what. When I start up vista, my desktop, toolbars, and windows are all now much larger. How can I change the view back? I have checked my DPI, it's at 96 and will not go lower. Changing icon size doesn't help. What can I do?

the fix
right click on the desktop, then click personalize.
then go to Display settings and drag the moniter resolution to high,
then click apply
