Vista Premium and Service Pack 1

Hi folks, I recently purchased a new notebook PC (Toshiba A200-MR108), it came with Vista Home Premium 32 bit. It did not contain service pack 1 and I'm having a bit of trouble finding it.

I have read and completed all items in the Microsoft article 948343. The PC has been updated with the newest drivers and software from the Toshiba site, Symantec and Microsoft. Approx 30 updates have been applied using Microsoft Update so that seems to be working fine. No “hidden” updates exist. Norton Internet Security 2007 is installed and active.

The PC itself runs fine with no issues or problems. Microsoft Office has been installed and was also updated by Microsoft Update.

I have downloaded the full Service Pack 1 from Microsoft (450meg) but am hesitant to force an install if Microsoft Update has detected something. I read on the Microsoft site that a faulty driver could be causing Microsoft Update to not offer SP1 yet, and that the manufacturer may be working on a fix – just wait.

Has anyone had a similar problem with their PC?

Any thoughts as to why Service Pack 1 would not be available via Windows Update?

When I installed the Vista

When I installed the Vista Service Pack 1 I suddenly lost my audio and then fortunately I had created a restore point I went back to a previous date in time to fix this. I am hesitant of installing even though it says it is a critical update. Anyone else have a problem with the audio and if so how did you resolve?

Same Problem

I am currently having the exact same problem. I have been searching online for about 2 hours now to see if Windows or Toshiba offer any assistance on the problem, but I have found nearly nothing. I am most likely going to reinstall the driver for my sound card, as that sometimes fixes problems like this.

Vista Home Premium & SP1

Last Wednesday (10th Sept), MS offered me SP1 via Windows updates. Best advice is to download & install all Windows updates (I even resorted to the automatic updates option!), make sure that your drivers are the latest, and your patience will be rewarded. That said, whilst the 58Mb download has presented no problems, I can't really see any benefits either! Big fuss about nothing ..?
