Hi,
I have just bought my girlfriend an Acer Aspire 5715Z laptop, nothing speceial I know but it does everything she needs it to do! Except for the hard drive space! Firstly it is supposed to be an 80GB hard drive, however this is split into C and D drives, C drive states that the max storage 32.5GB and D drive states the max is 32.2GB - so it doesnt take a brain surgeon to work out that this only adds up to 64.7 GB in total, so where could the other 15.3GB be????????
Secondly the C drive states that it is 60% used and that there is only 13GB left out of 32.5GB, now this computer is brand new and the only thing I have installed is Norton 360. I have read about the Shadow Storage issues and I know about it being assigned unlimited space on Vista sometimes - I have gone into command prompt and changed it successfully to 1GB, but this has made no difference. I cannot understand what is taking up so much space, it cannot be all the pre installed programes that come on the computer!! I would really appreciate anyones help on this, Thanks
Sorry for the late replay,
Sorry for the late replay, maybe you already found out, if not here is what you can investigate.
The first thing is go to "Computer Management". You can access it by writing in the search bar from the start "manage" or right click on the "Computer tab" from the start button an select Manage.
Now go to Storage > Disk Management. It is possible to see an C: and D: partition and also an hidden partition with no name. Tis is made by some companies that sell the laptops with preinstalled system. That partition has an image of your system and is used like an " reset to factory default" if your system is crashed.
For the second part of your question try also to empty your recycle bin. If not there are some free software that can show you exact with folder is using how much space. You could check Tree Size Free.
