cant connect to netgear router


i use a xp laptop at the same place and my new vista laptop, the xp is connected to the router and internet but vista is connected to the router but not to the internet i disable the ip6 in properties and still nothing.
hope the is one bright spark out there that could give me some info.

Here are some things you can try.
1) See that you have the same IP configuration ( different only the IP Address ) at the Windows XP and Winsows Vista systems. ( i think is better to have it on "Obtain an IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server addres automaticaly" ( if you have DHCP enable on the router)
2)Try ping google.com from command line ( Start > cmd )
If this is not working try ping 64.233.167.99 ( the IP of google.com ) posible you have some DNS problems.

Please get back with more data afther you do the tests.

I am having the same problem.

I am having the same problem. My router is not giving the vista laptop the correct Ip address. I am getting a 169 IP address. I turned off security for my router and this fixed the problem for a few hours. XP laptop connects fine to netgear router. Firmaware is up to date on router.
