Wireless Problems

Ok, Guys, i have a BIG problem. I rescently got a new laptop:model ADVENT 5312 running windows vista and i want to connect it to my netgear router modem thing, I dunno what make it is, so ill just put in all the info on the box: 108Mpbs Rangemax ADSL Modem Wireless Router with 4 port 10/100mbps switch dg834pn. Ok so, onto the problem: i get my laptop shove an ethernet cable and it works fine with it in, i try connect it wirelessly, and it all goes wrong. It knows the network is there, it just cannot connect to the router. I also have my ps3 and the family desktop pc are connected with ethernet cables, but the whole point of getting a laptop was to be wireless. So, miscellaneous info: my isp is AOL, and i do have broadband, also, well, i mean my dad, who got the router, got a disk for the router, should i install this on the laptop,i use a thing called driver sentry that came with the laptop, pre-installed, and i got it from currys(UK). Wow, that was a lot to fit in, so, any help would be awesome.
Cheers
Jamie

Please be more explicit with

Please be more explicit with "and it all goes wrong".... when you connect to wierless how the icon form the network looks. Also check the IP that you have at the wierles network card, it should be in the same IP class with the router ( the same ip class that you have when you plug the network cable )
Please get back with more data afhter you checked this.

Netgear Rangemax

I recently installed a rangemax wireless router and had identical problems which was about to make me a candidate for the funny farm until I shut down the whole system AND physically disconnected the broadband modem from the incoming line. Now it works fine.
