I run a church software program that Vista did not accept. I also am having difficulty dowloading an existing Lexmark printer on to my new Dell Computer. I am ready to throw everything out and use an old laptop.
Who designed this system without perfecting the ongoing problems? And my system takes FOREVER to download ANYTHING. My HP system was fantastic. PLEASE HELP!!
Can I get rid of the Vista and go back to Windows XP on my new Dell?

Read this article, it might help with the church software: http://www.vista4beginners.com/Run-older-applications-in-Windows-Vista
I am assuming you want to download&install a driver for Lexmark:
1. try this test: http://img210.imageshack.us/img210/2121/19358424gy4.jpg
2. If it doesn't work (the test) read this article: http://www.vista4beginners.com/How-to-install-local-printer
the downloading part is not Windows Vista fault. This is an issue with the internet connection. You can even install Windows 8, Mac 14, Linux distro or some future state of the art operating system and would still probably have this problem. Take this matter with your ISP.
Later Edit: I am partly mistaken here.
Can I get rid of Vista? Yes and No. Read further to understand.
Can I downgrade my OEM version of Windows Vista Business to Windows XP Professional?
Yes. OEM downgrade rights for desktop PC operating systems apply to Windows Vista Business and Windows Vista Ultimate as stated in the License Terms. Please note, OEM downgrade versions of Windows Vista Business and Windows Vista Ultimate are limited to Windows XP Professional (including Windows XP Tablet PC Edition and Windows XP x64 Edition). End users can use the following media for their downgrade: Volume Licensing media (provided the end user has a Volume Licensing agreement), retail (FPP), or system builder hologram CD (provided the software is acquired in accordance with the Microsoft OEM System Builder License). Use of the downgraded operating system is governed by the Windows Vista Business License Terms, and the end user cannot use both the downgrade operating system and Windows Vista Business. There are no downgrade rights granted for Windows Vista Home Basic or Windows Vista Home Premium.
This an official response given by Microsoft. This is also stated, as said by Microsoft, in the License Terms.

windows vista super slow internet
hi there i have an acer desktop with pentium quad core processor which came pre-booted with Vista home premium and i've just gotten ADSL2+ internet connection but my internet runs super slow. my parents also run vista and their adsl internet connection is super slow. my brother has an older computer and Windows XP and his wireless broadband connection is so incredibly faster than mine!!! All have the same ISP and all in the same relative area, within a couple kilometers...i've talked with my ISP and they did a connection diagnostic found nothing wrong at their end or with my areas server lines, so i looked in online forums and found that hundreds of people who have upgraded to vista from XP are complaining about their expensive internet connections suddenly going from 5mbs or more download speeds to 30KBs or even less!!!
some said they solved it by deleting the free trial of mcafee anti-virus, others tried fiddling with compression ratios or some such, but most have had to reboot in XP to get their internet speeds back! ive tried everything they said and no results.
when i first started my computer something went wrong and it default booted in XP...i fixed the problem later but now im wondering if you know a way i could make it default to XP again and then maybe i could see if my internet runs swifter with it.
thankyou
PS. otherwise i'll be formatting my computer and getting a version of XP to boot up!

There is bound to be a solution there, at least I hope.
I will read more about this subject and see if I can find a solution for this problem.
