Windows Mobile Device Center Problems

I just purchased a new PC with Vista pre-installed. I just discovered that ActiveSync is not supported in Vista. Instead, there's now a new application in Vista called Windows Mobile Device Center that supposedly handles synching PDAs with Outlook. I have a Dell Axim x51v that I want to synch with Outlook. So, I went to the Microsoft web site, I downloaded WMDC, but nothign happened. Instead, when I double click on the WMDC icon in Control Panel, nothing happens. And when I try to re-download WMDC I get an error message that says setup failed and I should go to the C drive and click on setup. When I do that I just get the same error message. And when I click on the update file I get a message that the system administrator won't allow that installation. Anyone have any idea how I actually get WMDC to install properly and synch up with my Axim?

run as admin

You could try to run the setup using 'admin rights'. Right click on the setup program and click on 'Run as administrator'.

connecting using Windows Mobile Device Center

I have changed it to "admin rights" and does not connect still. In fact I cannot open up the program at all. Any other suggestions? I have a T Mobile dash and Vista program on pc.

If you are using Windows

If you are using Windows OneCare, then you must allow Mobile Device Center in your firewall.

Windows Mobile Device Center

Windows Mobile Device Center comes with Windows Vista, you shouldn't have to download or install anything. Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > Sync Center

cannot connect htc s730 to WMDC

i downloaded the latest drvupdate-x86.exe off the microsoft website i run it and says that driver was installed but when i open WMDC it says my phone is not connected and their is no way i can connect it either...i am using the cable....when i open syn centre there are also no partnerships and i cannot create any either.... i run vista basic 32bit...

can anyone help me solve this issue please?
thanks

I'm having this same issue.

I'm having this same issue. I double click on WMDC and nothing happens.

I also have this problem

I to am having this problem. When you double click WMDC in control panel the load icon appears for a second then nothing happens.

Solution

Ok this is what worked for me and may for you. Browse to directory C:\windows\windows mobile then run the setup wmdc.exe first to make sure its installed properly. Then run wmupdate.msi and agree to the licence. WMDC should now open and also allow you to open from the control panel.

COM Surrogate and WMDC error

I am getting an error message every time I try to use WMDC that says: "COM Surrogate has stopped working." This causes WMDC to stop working so I can't add or remove programs or synchronize with my HP iPAQ hw6945. I know that the COM Surrogate program can also be related to video codecs and media players, but I've tried all the fixes those forums provide and they don't solve this problem. Any suggestions?

Just setting it up

ok this has happened on both my new PCs that I have got with Vista. I install the Windows Mobile Device Software and whenever I goto setup up the device nothing happens.

Turn of the firewall. Nothing.

Enable the program to have access. Nothing

It doesnt show it is there. Nothing

What do I need to do? This happens on both PCs
