Updating software

Recently I had a video card fail on me, in the process of solving the problem I removed and reseated the memory on my machine. I am running Vista Home Premium 64. I have the machine up and operating. Then Adobe wants to do an automatic update to some of the software running on my machine but through the process of repair I must have done something to the read write attributes. How do I allow the 3rd party trusted companies to go about their business of updating? Can't remember what to do. Right click something, Folder or Computer ???? Any direction will help and is very much appreciated.

Firewall

What firewall do you have?

Not sure, Windows

Not sure, Windows firewall??, is my guess. Is there such a thing, for some reason I remember Windows running it's own firewall. Does this help? I am a novice if you could not tell, DOH.
Thanks dp

Windows Firewall

In case you have Windows Firewall, read this tutorial to understand how to allow programs to access the internet:

The folder that Adobe wanted

The folder that Adobe wanted to access was not allowing them to do so, thanks for the link I may have solved the problem. I have just restarted I will find out soon I suppose. Thanks for the help, dp.
