I transferred the entire contents of the Outlook Express archive folder to my new Vista pc just like you described, and imported it into Mail just like you describe, but it does NOT work.
It gives the pop up screen with the green process bar and the hard drive goes active, but then when all is finished I DO NOT have my old emails in my Mail program folders anywhere.
I also keep getting the blue "(1)" behind my outbox for example, when my outgoing mails have already been sent and the outbox is actually EMPTY. But that's a different bug. Almost equally annoying though.
The Outbox will be emptied
The Outbox will be emptied after the messages are sent. You will see the messages in the "sent" folder.
What a struggle! I finally
What a struggle! I finally succeeded by changing the copy of the email store on the XP machine to not read only before importing it into Vista
email messages
How? I uncheck the read only box and it just fills in to a green square. No matter what I try I can;t get my XP Outlook Express messages into Vista. Help?
Transfer of Data into Windows Vista Computer
I bought my computer and had it "professionally" installed (another bad issue in itself). The e-mail I had transfered was loose and also in personal folders. I located the folders outside of my regular e-mail through a friend of the family that knows about computers because the store I bought it from has been no help (long issue). My issue is that I am being told that the only way I can now access these personal folders (placed in dbx files in the new computer) is if I purchase MS Office and use the Word word processing software program. This was not explained when I asked about transfering my e-mails from an old computer. I actually made copies onto a cd and took it to work and tried it on my company's computer. MS Word 2003 wouldn't pull it up. I am getting notes that say that the information wasn't decoded correctly or the information could be corrupted. Help!!!
MS Word 2003
You cannot view dbx files using MS Word 2003. You need to import all your old e-mail into Outlook Express or Windows Mail.
Migration process doesn´t work
I followed all steps but windows mail doesn´t find any *.dbx file (Outlook espress 6). Any idea to overcome this problem ???
I have the same problem.
I have the same problem. The old dbx files are on the new vista computer but when I use windows mail to inport from these files it can not find any dbx files in the folder they are in.
Hidden files
You might not seem the because they are set as hidden files and you need to "unhide" them. Also, you should check if the folder is read-only. If it is, you should set the permissions to full.
Still Not Working
I changed the folder is not read-only and it is not hidden. But when I import from Windows Mail, it still does not see the files.
Help.
