I actually like VISTA with some frustrations regarding legacy software and drivers.
One quirk though that has been extremely annoying is that the mouse pointer hotpot is erratic. At times it operates normally and at other, seemingly random times, I have to move the mouse around the item I want to select until I find the hotspot. This can obviously be difficult at times if there are several links or buttons close together and the hotspot is in the center of the mouse pointer instead of the tip.
Has anyone else witnessed this and is there a fix?
Thanks, Jeff
Driver
Do you have the latest drivers installed for the mouse?
I had some similar problems until i installed the drivers and it worked fine since then.
I am having the same problem
I am having the same problem -- the hotspot seems to move around and sometimes is the center of the pointer not the tip. I am using a Dell mouse that came with my new pc that has Vista installed. Any fixes?
mouse pointer hotspot
I'm having the exact same problem. The pointer hotspot keeps moving and is most often in the middle of the pointer. Replacing the mouse with a brand new Microsoft Laser Mouse with the latest drivers did not fix the problem, nor did turning off the Aero interface. This is on a new Dell XPS desktop that came with Vista installed. I also have a 6 month old Inspiron laptop with the same version of Vista that does not exhibit this behavior either with the touchpad or a bluetooth wireless mouse. Anybody have any more info on this problem?
Mouse Problems
My problem is the mouse that came with my new PC with Vista installed suddenly only worked in the horizontal direction. Thinking I had a mouse problem I switched with a brand new mouse and that worked fine for about a week until I know can only move that mouse vertically. I switched back to my first mouse and it STILL only works in the horizontal plane...
Pointer problem
I've been having a similar problem. It isn't a consistent problem and about 1/3 of the time my mouse works normally. My problem seems similar to the one Jeff noted at the beginning, except that my system is a laptop and the "mouse" in question is the touchpad built into my laptop.
Same Problem Here
I have an Dell XPS 420 with a Dell mouse, Vista came with the machine and the mouse never seems to click where I want it to. I know Dell has good support, maybe they know how to fix it.
Same prob
I bought an XPS 420 from dell with vista and a dell mouse... i have a really hard time clicking on what i want

Try one of 2 things.
- the crazy one is put the mouse on an black mouse pad or something black.
- Go to the mouse settings and change the pointer scheme from Windows Aero to None.
Hope this helps you.
I can't believe that
I can't believe that worked.
Thanks that was awesome.

I had exactly the same problem with my Dell XPS, and your crazy solution to use a black mouse pad has worked a treat! Thanks very much.
