My boss has Vista Home. Suddenly, when he clicks Print, a Save As window pops up. Even after doing so, he can't print (same window keeps popping up). Printer is HP and had worked fine previously. Printer file shows no docs in queue. Can anyone help?
You will not get a "Save As" box unless you print using a virtual printer which converts your document to a PDF or image file.
Make sure that in the print menu, the HP Printer is selected and then try again.
I love how everyone automatically assumes this person doesn't know how to click file - print and choose the correct printer.
I have a user with this problem right now as well - the problem isn't that they don't know how to print, the problem is that no matter which printer they select (local printers, network printers, freshly installed printers) it will automatically treat it as a "print to file" type operation (i.e. document writer, etc) rather than sending it to the print server / spooler for hard copy printing.
I'll post my solution when (if) I figure it out. It works fine from notepad and other non-MS apps (for this user), so maybe I'll try reinstalling office.
I used to be able to print word docs but all of a sudden I can't. I can print everything else, so it isn't the printer. I suspect this happened after the last windows update. this is in visa with office 2000.
It seems that everyone is using Xp or Vista and trouble printing after updating. Vista has an update that will correct the issue. MAKE SURE you have the latet update for WINDOW VISTA. Often the problem is the older version of MS Office. MS Office 2000 is quite old - from the millineum. Try to purchase Office 2003 or 2007. This will definitely resolve the issue.
Another solution is, in Vista, delete or disable the "onenote" printer from the list of printers. After updating and clearing printers, restart and try again. It's worked every time for me.
The answer should never be to upgrade an MS package. Microsoft should solve problems with its software and not create new ones to have you upgrade to later program. You are buying into a poor way of thinking.
Printer will print everything but ....in the applications above. And that's what I need the most! Sooooo frustrated, spent hours and hours trying to figure it out and ready to chuck out the window. Pleaaaase, if anyone can figure out how to get printer to work with any or all of these applications, I would really appreciate it!!!
Printer selection
Did he select the HP printer in the Print window?
Make sure he selected the HP printer and not Microsoft Office Document Image Writer.
Can't print Word documents
I had set the HP as the default printer. When he went to print, he couldn't get past the Save As box.

How to print on word windows vista
I dont know how to print on word for windows vista, can you tell me please?
How to print
Buy and install a printer.
If you are using WordPad or Word 2003, go to the File Menu, select Print, select the printer you installed and click on the Print button.
If you are using Word 2007, click on the Office ribbon, go to Print -> Print, select the printer you installed and click on the Print button.
You're All Missing the Point
