Hello
I have windows vista home preminum and my sound has stopped working...
The volume symbol has a red cross on it at the bottom of the right hand corner next to the time..
I've tried but i can't turn it on
There are some audio drivers that do not work on Windows Vista SP1. If you have a Realtek, SigmaTel, Creative or Conexant sound card you will have this problem. The solution is to wait until the drivers are updated to work on SP1.
Audio drivers that do not work on SP1:
* Realtek AC’97 (Alcxwdm.sys and Alcwdm64.sys - version 6.0.1.6242 or earlier)
* SigmaTel (Sthda.sys and Sthda64.sys - version 5.10.5762.0 or earlier)
* SigmaTel (Stwrt.sys Stwrt64.sys - version 6.10.5511.0 or earlier)
* Creative Audigy (Ctaud2k.sys - version 6.0.1.1242 or earlier; P17.sys – all versions)
* Conexant HD Audio (Chdart.sys and Chdart64.sys - version 4.32.0.0 or earlier)
i installed vista home premium..everything is perfect in my system.. there is no red cross mark in my system.. but also the sound is not playing.. please give me an solution ...
I think your sound is muted.... If you have a volume button indicated in blue, press down "Fn" and the volume button up key at the same time, or try un-muting it with "Fn" and F6 (un-mute button). I hope this will work for ya! If not, trying going to Start>>Control Panel>> System and Maintenance>> Device Manager (it'll ask for your password, or it'll ask you to click "Continue", click "Continue") there you will see all kinds of icons, also one is enlisted "Sound", click on it, and if the icon "Sound" has an exclamation mark behind it, there might be a problem, but it will be solveable :). Maybe you can find more help by searching in the Help section of your computer. Hope this helped! Good luck!
