Unable to send or receive mail with Windows Mail

This is the message I am receiving
The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'test', Account: 'pop.mail.yahoo.com', Server: 'smtp.mail.yahoo.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10057, Error Number: 0x800CCC0Eis is the ERROR message I keep receiving!

I bought an HP Laptop in July and I am using VerizonWireless as my server. They do not support an email address, but a yahoo address worked well to forward my primary business address to Windows Mail except Yahoo's recommended smtp was not functional. A VerizonWireless Tech. assisted me over the phone and Windows Mail fine worked until two weeks ago. At that time I had to restore Internet Explorer (I am still learning Vista features) and an HP "expert" had installed FireFox for me as I was unable to use my print feature... meanwhile I learned about "ALT" through reading the Vista Teach Yourself Manual which showed me how to access the "missing" tool bar for PRINT, EDIT, etc (Pretty slick actually, but my HP Tech in Calcutta apparently was not familiar with that feature and thought I needed FireFox. Then Yahoo upgraded their email features... - and I am not sure which one influenced my current Windows Mail failure... I checked with HP and VerizonWireless techs, and tried HELP from Yahoo - none of the recommendations worked. I also switched from smtp.vzw.mail.net to smtp.mail.yahoo.com - still, I was not able to resolve this situation. I was told the above ERROR message was a server problem... which one??? Yahoo or Verizon???

At wits end...

reply

I have sent a reply by e-mail for this. Here it is:

This error has nothing to do with Firefox or any other application except Windows Mail.

First, you should know that Yahoo Mail allows you to access your e-mail from a client such as Windows Mail only if you go for the Yahoo Mail Plus plan. For this plan you have to pay, it is not free.

If you do not pay for Yahoo Mail Plus then you cannot access your e-mail from Windows Mail and you should go for another e-mail service which offers this feature for free. For example, I can recommend GMail. It is really good and free.

If you do pay for Yahoo Mail Plus, then you should check your e-mail server connection settings in Windows Mail.
From the error message you have sent me I can see that it was not configured properly and this is why Windows Mail cannot connect to the server.

You can find the correct settings here:
http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/original/mailplus/pop/pop-14.html

Double check all the settings and type the correct server names, ports and authentication options.

If you do this, it will work.

can not send or recieve any mail

could you please help me with my web mail it isnt working at all
i have contacted hp and they rebooted my computer three times and reset it it still dosnt work
its a very new computer its only 3weeks old

Details pls

If you want someone to help, you should give us much more details:

First: does your internet connection work? Can you access any web pages from that computer?
2nd: What e-mail client are you using and to what e-mail service are you trying to connect?
3rd: Do you know the settings required to connect to your e-mail service?
4th: Do you have any firewalls installed?

cannot receive mail for web mail

i have tried to receive mail form my webmail.net4india.com. I have configured everything but in vain. please help.

Receiving Mail for Web Mail

Many sites that host webmail accounts only allow access via the web browser and not through an email client such as Outlook, Thunderbird or Windows Mail. I suggest you navigate to the website for your account and log on there. You may also find a help file at the website.

Good luck.

Unable to log in to specific sites

I bought a compaq presario laptop, with windows vista basic....after the initial 60 days of Norton antivirus got over, i was advised to install McAfee antivirus, which I did(VirusScanPlus2007), however the same had compatibility issues with vista and the notebook did not recognise the antivirus, I immediately had the McAfee unisntalled, however post doing that, I am unable to click on to the log in buttons of some sites (e.g netbanking, mobile sites) after giving the user id and password, when the cursor is pointed to the Log in button, there is no response and below it says JAVASCRIPT:VOID(0)
I am unable to delete any scrap from orkut or even accept or decline any friends request!! the same msg shows.

Pls help me out.... I need to be connected to netbanking...

Logging on to specific sites

Hi, Arup. I don't believe the problem is related to Norton or McAfee. However, I do hope you have installed a replacement antivirus software. I compiled a list a while back of Windows Vista compatible antivirus software:
http://vistabookmarks.blogspot.com/2007/02/vista-compatible-antivirus-so...

As to accessing those sites, I would first try clearing the cache, temp files, cookies, history, etc. An easy way to do that is with ATF Cleaner by Atribune from http://www.atribune.org/content/view/40/2/ . Save it to your Desktop.

To run ATF Cleaner
-- Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
-- Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
-- Click the Empty Selected button.
-- Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
-- Shutdown/restart the computer.

You don't indicate which browser you are using. However, it is also likely that Javascript is required for those sites. I located instructions for the major browsers here: http://www.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=23852

I hope this helps.

Unable to Send Emails Using Webmail via Vista

I'm using webmail to access to my company's email and able to receive, read and even delete. The problem lies when I try to send email. The new email windows do appear and I can key in some text, but when I press send, the IE restart by itself.

This happens only when I'm using Vista. Previously, I was using XP and such problem never happens.

Kindly assist as I need to use it whenever I'm at home to follow up my work. Thanks.
