Images won't load

I have jpg images, and when I open Windows explorer, they don't load, just the default drawing, with no photographs. used to work, now it doesn't. must have changed a setting. any thoughts??

1. press the start button-> system -> Advanced settings link located in the left side of the window-> In the Advanced tab choose the Settings corresponding to the Performance category (the other categories are User Profile & Startup and recovery) -> if unchecked, check the "Show thumbnails instead of icons", click apply and click the OK button. If it was already checked, uncheck, apply and check again.
If 1 didn't work don't revert it and continue to step 2.
2. In the windows explorer press alt+t then click on "Folder Options" . A new window will appear. Click on the View tab and uncheck "Always show icons never thumbnails".
