How-To Top Destinations on the web: ITsVista.com

As its name suggests, ITsVista.com is a web destination dedicated to Windows Vista. The website was started in December 2006, just a bit before we launched Windows Vista for Beginners. The person behind this website is Joseph Fieber, a very friendly computer enthusiast with whom we collaborated in a few occasions.

When browsing this website, you will find the following categories: Tips and Tricks, Windows Updates & Hotfixes (with complete descriptions and links for direct downloads), Knowledge Base Links to articles describing known Windows Vista errors, a complete list of Windows Vista Keyboard Shortcuts, information about Windows Vista's Services and Commands, a few Product Reviews, a Glossary of terms explaining many abbreviations you might encounter while working with Windows Vista and a collection of Videos and Web Links.

Windows Media Center

Why one should use Windows Media Center? The answer is simple: because Music, Pictures and Videos are more than just files!

To explain things better, I will start by briefly describing a typical scenario: you take 200 photos on a weekend trip, you download all of your favorite music and videos and you collect huge numbers of mp3 files. What happens to them? They all end up in folders, on a partition of your hard drive and most of the times you can't remember where they were. Windows Media Center can help you find them. In this article I will present the most important features and issues of Windows Media Center, which is intended to be an important Windows Vista tool for organizing and accessing media files.

For the moment, I will resume the presentation only to the Local Media features, like the Pictures, Videos and Music Libraries. The other features (TV and Movies, Sports and Online Media) will be presented in a forthcoming article.

How to uninstall the driver of a hardware component

Drivers can be called, in a way, translators. They are basically programs that manage the communication between your programs and the hardware devices or components that are inside your PC. Most of the time the communication process runs smoothly while other times it doesn't. One of the possible causes might be the fact that the driver for a specific hardware component is either incompatible with your operating system, or it works with another version of the same component. In this tutorial I will show you how to remove faulty drivers that might be installed for some of your hardware components.

How to solve common AutoComplete problems in IE7

AutoComplete is a feature that you have surely encountered in Internet Explorer and its purpose is to list the possible matches from entries that you've typed before. This applies to web pages, registration forms, user names and passwords that you fill with your personal identification details.

The most common issues with AutoComplete are related to the decisions you make regarding its prompting message. When typing your username and password to login on a webpage such as Yahoo Mail or GMail, you can do one or both of these actions:

  • Check the option "Don't offer to remember any more passwords" and then realize that you miss this feature and you want the message to appear again.
  • Or

  • When loading a webpage that requires your username and password, if you click on the "No" button, then come back later and click again on "No", the AutoComplete prompt will stop showing up for that page. However, there is a chance that you will later realize that you might want to save that password.

In this short tutorial I will show you how to quickly overpass these problems.

How to change Window Color and Appearance

One of the graphical changes in Windows Vista is the fact that, if Aero is enabled, the titlebars and borders of each window are translucent. By default, all your windows will have a light blue color. However, it can be changed at any time so that it fits your taste. In this article I will show you how to do it.

If you have visited our site in the last few days, I'm sure you noticed the new Firefox 3 Download Day 2008 logo. On the 17th of June 2008, Mozilla has officially launched the 3rd version of their famous Firefox browser. To celebrate this launch, Mozilla has planned to set the Guinness World Record for Most Software Downloaded in 24 Hours. In order to help them achieve this goal, I would like to share with you some of the reasons for which you should download and install this great piece of software right-away.

Windows Firewall

One of the applications which changed quite a lot in Windows Vista, compared to Windows XP, is Windows Firewall. There are a number of new features which make it a much more reliable solution which offers a decent protection level. Unfortunately, until now we did not get the chance to feature Windows Firewall on our site. I would like to use this article and show you the following: how to find the Windows Firewall, how to use it, how to access and change defined exceptions and how to select the network connections that are protected by Windows Firewall.

Want larger Quick Launch icons in the Taskbar?

How to create shortcuts to files and folders

In our day to day life we use or want to use shortcuts. We use them to get to our desired destination so that we shorten the time needed to get there. When we are talking about shortcuts in the computer world and Windows Vista, the definition remains the same. A shortcut is a file that contains the path towards another file or folder and, by using it, we get to the desired item faster. In this tutorial I will show you how to create shortcuts and how to place them on your desktop or other locations.
